What our Analysts do

This role is designed to develop the next generation of Private Bankers within Barclays Wealth. Over the course of the three-year programme your role and responsibility will change to reflect the growth in your own profile and career.

As a first-year Analyst, you’ll be the focal point of front office work and responsible for much of the administration involved in meeting our clients’ banking needs. Providing vital support to a Private Banker, you will be the first contact point for clients and solicit ongoing feedback from customers and the team on performance. By being adaptable, flexible and taking on additional responsibilities wherever possible, you will begin to get to grips with the role of a Private Banker and learn how the end-to-end process of private banking works. While most of your time will be spent in the office, learning the ropes, you also get the chance to visit clients with your Private Banker. This will benefit you greatly as you get to learn first hand how business is conducted and how relationship management works.

Your first year will include a wide range of initial training. It will give you more of an insight into Barclays Wealth, provide an overview of our core product offering and specific asset classes, and develop business skills in areas such as project management, communication, teamwork and taking control of your career. It will also see you commence work towards the CFA

Second-year Analysts undertake two six-month rotations, one of which is product focused and the other international. Your product rotation will provide an insight into how we devise, develop and distribute our products. You’ll be working closely with technical specialists whose job it is to identify business opportunities and support sales, the same people who will be supporting you to create tailored recommendations for your clients once you are a qualified Private Banker. Your international rotation will allow for exposure to private banking in a different location, provide the opportunity to see how another banker runs their book and also offer a valuable cross-cultural experience.

Your third and final year will see you return to your ‘home’ team, pull together all the skills you’ve learned so far and work towards passing your CFA level III and becoming a Junior Private Banker.

We take a long-term view of your future and our training reflects that. There are no short cuts to becoming a Private Banker within Barclays Wealth. To be fully prepared to engage with clients you will need to learn as much about the work of our investment managers, product specialists, behavioural finance experts and financial planners as you will about your own role. Because that knowledge is vital to make sure our clients’ needs are met.
